About Us

First Steps Playgroup has been open for over 50 years.

First Steps is a community run playgroup with a charitable status and is run by a committee of enthusiastic volunteers who are responsible for the administration and policies of the group. The committee meets approximately 10 times a year, where parents/carers are always welcome to come and join in. The AGM takes place annually, where committee elections happen.

On the ground at First Steps we have a team of 10 Care Givers who pride themselves in creating a warm and caring atmosphere in which children, staff and parents/carers can all feel welcome and totally secure.

A maximum of 32 children aged 2-4 yrs may attend the playgroup at any one time.

The playgroup is normally open every weekday morning from 9am to 12noon during term time and every afternoon (except Tuesday) from 12.30pm to 15.30pm. Children staying all day can stay between sessions and bring along a packed lunch to eat together at 12.30pm.

Children are cared for in a warm, safe, clean and child-orientated environment including an enclosed outdoor play area. Children are able to play and move around comfortably in a well-organised environment, with clearly defined play areas and sufficient space between each of the activities to engage in quiet and physical activities.

Children's decision-making skills, choice of activities and independence are promoted in all our activities.

A range of healthy snacks are provided during the morning session; the menu is displayed for parents/carers to see.
